Just a reminder that our next show is on February 12th at the Mercury Lounge in New York City. For more info on the club go to http://www.mercuryloungenyc.com . We’re working on setting up more shows outside of the city so stay tuned–

Also, thank you to one Anonymous reader/commenter for pointing out my spelling error. (See if you can find it yourself!) I promise to use spell check from this point on.

Also, in response to a few emails: unfortunately, yes, the Mercury Lounge is 21+. Sorry. mercury-lion-flyer.jpg

Ten years later…

January 28, 2008

…it would appear the music industry has finally caved. They’ve banded together to form a new venture called Qtrax. From what I can tell, this site allows anyone to download music to play anywhere for nothing. Has anyone tried this yet? Any predictions on whether or not this will be a lifeboat for the big labels?

Wrapped around the block!

January 28, 2008

I wanted to get into Bender arena today to see Ted Kennedy endorse Barack Obama, but the line was just under a mile long….so I had to settle for CNN. Still pretty moving…

Also, tomorrow The Epochs will be SPIN.com’s Artist of the Day–

Looks like Isreal is finally ready for the Beatles:

Computers…

January 28, 2008

…are incredibly frustrating. I re-recorded the same vocals four times today because the computer either froze or quit. When people sing the praises of computers I have to scratch my head. I feel like they haven’t come that far since the days of DOS and Master Blaster….floppydisk.jpg

Mercury Lounge with Senator

January 27, 2008

picture-1.png

Our next show in New York is at the Mercury Lounge on February 12th with a band called Senator–I know alot of times people come to this club only to stay for the band they came to see, but this time I urge people to stick around. Senator (also from New York) have a pretty impressive roster of musicians, including members who’ve played with Rufus Wainwright & Ryan Adams (two of my personal favorites). They’ve got some serious Paul McCartney in their sound, which is never a bad thing! Listen to ‘Betty Page’ at http://www.myspace.com/senatorsenator.

We play at 9:00…they’re right after us at 10:15 or so.

And speaking of Senators….Obama beat Hillary 2 to 1 last night!? I think I should’ve probably made my prediction with a little more gusto!

Kevin from Broome had some very nice things to say about us on his site:

“Another great band out of Brooklyn, The Epochs are making music that sounds like what Justin Timberlake would be doing if he had skipped his Mickey Mouse Club and Boy Band origins and simply focussed on creating catchy falsetto driven pop songs.Opposite Sides is a gorgeous, rambling track that seems to head out in five different rhythmic and thematic directions over the course of its 4 minute span, jumping between fuzz box dance beats, quiet psychedelic digressions and sweet ethereal harmonies.”

Hard at Work…?

January 26, 2008

Greetings! As you may or may not have noticed, we haven’t played a single show in January (except for a New Years set that Hays & I did in D.C.). The reason for this is that we’re currently overhauling our entire live set up, switching the back end of things from one form of technology to another. It’s not very interesting to hear all the details, really, but that’s why there has been a lack of activity as of lately. But rest assured that when we re-emerge on February 12th at 9:00 at the Mercury Lounge it will have been well worth the wait. At least we hope… I’m also predicting that Barack Obama will beat the Clintons by %14 today in S. Carolina, in a “wave” of voter turnout (see picture)…anyone care to get in on this wager?    obama-surf.jpg
